 Brooks Block1

Brooks Block, located on the corner of Washington and Bolivar Streets, was built around 1856.

Among other stores, the building housed a barbershop, Moulton’s Drug Store, and N.E. Telephone. Odd Fellows Hall was situated in the Block; organizations such as the Canton Town Club, the Masons, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians rented space for meetings as well. Various town departments also had space in Brooks Block: both the police department and the post office were housed there at various points.

In 1887, the upper floor of Brooks Block was renovated and became a banquet room; in 1905, the hall was further enlarged and re-furnished.

The building burned down on September 18, 1942.
