In September 1955 Jennie Forte Keleher, wife of Daniel C. Keleher a former Police Chief, was hired as the first woman crossing guard in the town. Mrs. Keleher was stationed at several locations throughout the town in her ten (10) years of service that included the Hemenway and Kennedy Schools. Jeanie Forte Keleher went on to raise four (4) children and passed away on December 5, 2003.
