Daniel T.V. Huntoon1
Daniel Thomas Vose Huntoon, author of History of the Town of Canton, was born on September 4, 1842 to Rev. Benjamin Huntoon and Mrs. Lydia Huntoon who were leaders of the First Congregational Church for many years. Daniel Huntoon spent several years at Harvard and studied law under Ellis Ames, eventually becoming a businessman developing plastic goods, men’s furnishings, and tailoring. Huntoon was an active member and historian in the community, serving on the school committee, Superintendent of Schools, a town moderator, and was a founding member of the Blue Hill Lodge. Huntoon died on December 15, 1886 and was eulogized by Elijah Morse and Loring Puffer.
